App-based transport services and private vehicles that are turning stations of the Metro Rail Transit 3 along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) as their terminals are now the targets of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in its campaign to clear the streets of traffic obstructions.
Bong Nebrija, MMDA supervising operations officer, said they have received reports that MRT-North Avenue Station in Quezon City “has been made into a parking lot by waiting taxis, for hire carpooling vehicles, (Transport Network Vehicle Service) Uber and Grab, and private vehicles.”
Nebrija said traffic flow along EDSA is worsened by these idle vehicles waiting for passengers at MRT and irresponsible public utility buses loading and unloading passengers.
Aside from those idle vehicles, Nebrija said they have spotted two heavy equipment on the sidewalk that has caused deterioration on the road pavement.
The MMDA, with its Anti-Illegal Parking and Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group had been relentless in getting rid of vehicles obstructing traffic flow on Metro Manila streets, especially the Mabuhay Lanes and other alternative routes used by motorists avoiding EDSA.
Aside from the MMDA’s website and social media pages, complaints against illegal parking and other obstructions on major roads in Metro Manila are reaching the President’s Hotline or 8888.
Celine Pialago, MMDA Spokesperson, said the agency is receiving a lot of complaints against illegally parked vehicles that obstruct traffic flow even on secondary roads, which is under the jurisdiction of Metro local government units.
