Starting to lose your hair?  Here’s a reason to embrace it.

A recent study by Barry University in Florida found that bald men are perceived as more dominant, stronger, and sexier than men who have a head full of hair.

The study, headed by Dr. Frank Muscarella, conducted three experiments in which participants rated photos of men with hair and those with no hair on characteristics such as dominance, confidence, masculinity, and attractiveness. From there, it was found that bald men were seen as more dominant over their hairy peers and were even viewed as stronger and sexier.

But, sorry baldies, sexiness and dominance don’t necessarily translate to attractiveness. In two out of the three experiments, men with shaved heads were seen less attractive than those with men with hair.

“It could be speculated that although the characteristic of baldness decreases a man’s perceived physical attractiveness, it increases his perceived social dominance,” says Dr. Muscarella in an interview.

“Studies have shown baldness in men is seen as a non-threatening form of social dominance. There is a large body of literature that shows that although women like physically attractive men, they are also very attracted to signs of high social dominance.”

He adds: “Consequently, it could now be explained how the characteristic was passed on. My speculation is that as humans evolved and the group became increasingly important for survival, males played a more integral role in the family group, and it may have been adaptive to evolve a morphological sign of this dominance-related role and one that made the adult males appear less threatening and more approachable to facilitate interactions with them.”

In simpler words, the study proves that that although bald men may not physically attract the opposite sex, ladies tend to believe that they can be better providers and protectors.
