The DLSU Green Archers will need to hold the fort for at least one more game before Ben Mbala can rejoin the team. The reigning champions face the NU Bulldogs this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Archers managed to fend off a big rally by the FEU Tamaraws last Sunday before settling for a 95-90 win. DLSU may need to do better against the Bulldogs who routed the UE Red Warriors in their first game, 86-69.
Mbala is currently playing for Cameroon in the 2017 FIBA AfroBasket 2017 and has been drawing raves. The 22-year-old is averaging 18.3 points per game so far, adding a three-point shot to his offensive arsenal. Incidentally, DLSU head coach Aldin Ayo praised Mbala for his work ethic and mentioned the possibility of converting him to the three-spot once he returns.
Hearing that, Mbala doesn’t feel any pressure on possibly shooting more threes. He looks up to his coach and is more concerned about returning to help the Green Archers.
“Coach is cool. I am really excited to go back and help the team,” said Mbala when asked about the expectations once he returns.
When asked about his health, the reigning UAAP MVP says that everything is good. He was able to watch the first half of the DLSU vs. FEU game and remains confident that his teammates can hold up.
“They are playing very well and should keep the same mentality entering every game,” ended Mbala.
