Marian Rivera-Dantes is one with the nation in hailing Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) as modern day heroes.

The actress knows how difficult it is to be away from loved ones as her mother, Amalia Rivera, was OFW in Spain and then London.

She is grateful for her mom’s sacrifices in order to give them a better life.

Kinailangan niyang lumayo para maibigay ’yung pangangailangan namin,” she related.

This is why Marian agreed to host “Tadhana,” a weekly drama anthology that features the colorful, romantic, heroic, and inspiring stories of OFWs. She finds the show relatable as hundreds of thousands of Filipinos seek greener pastures abroad.

Aside from showing the difficulties OFWs go through, “Tadhana” also presents the other face of the OFW – a person who, through his resilience, has been able to rise above the situation and succeed.

The actress said each episode aims to inspire viewers to never give up and continue reaching for their dreams.

Marian hopes the show will inspire OFWs.

“Kumbaga hindi man mabilisan pero ’pag naipakalat ’yung kwento at maraming makakita, mayroon at mayroon tutulong d’yan,” she shared.

That said, the actress wants to be the ambassadress of OFWs as in “ito sana ’yung maging basehan ng pagkatao ko.

“Sana in a way, makatulong ako at makapagpasaya ng tao, hindi lang dahil sa pagiging artista ko, kun’di sa pamamagitan ng show na ito.”

On hosting

Marian admitted she wondered at first why she was chosen to host “Tadhana” given that she is not known as a TV host.

“Yan Ang Morning!” was the now-defunct morning talk show that Marian hosted in 2016.

“Basta may sinabi sila sa akin na ikinataba ng puso ko kaya tinanggap ko,” she said.

Nonetheless, she is thankful that GMA has trusted her to handle the show.

To think na hindi naman ako talaga host ’di ba?,” she said. “So naisip ko, pinagkatiwala sa akin ’to kasi siguro nakita nila na mahahawakan ko ’to (show) ng maayos. Kaya thankful talaga ako.”

“Tadhana” airs every Saturday after “Ika-6 Na Utos” on GMA-7.

Moments in Spain

Marian together with husband Dingdong Dantes and baby Zia were in Spain recently to visit her father.

“Iba talaga ang lukso ng dugo no? Nu’ng nagkita sila (her father and Zia) parang matagal na silang magkakilala, tsaka ’yung anak ko malambing talaga eh, nakakatuwa silang pagmasdan,” she narrated.

The family often posts photos of their travel on social media and many netizens tag them as “the royal family.”

In a way parang ’yun ’yung paraan ko ng pagpapasalamat sa kanila.” (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
