CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga —The Magalang City police chief was sacked after two of his men were indicted for robbery extortion because of a case filed by a drug suspect’s wife, Chief Supt. Amador Corpus, Police Regional Office-3 (PRO-3) director, said on Friday.
Corpus said he ordered the relief of Supt. Al Cabauatan, Magalang City, Pampanga, Police Station chief and immediate supervisor of the extortion suspects, as “a matter of standard procedure” while the PRO-3 investigates the incident.
Earlier, operatives of the Pampanga Provincial Police Office’s Public Safety Company arrested Senior Police Officer 1 Jessie Mancilla Lopez in an entrapment operation in Barangay San Nicolas 1, Magalang, Pampanga.
The entrapment operation was prompted by the complaint of Maricar Canlapan who reported to the police authorities that Lopez and Sr. Insp. Philipp Pelle had demanded P30,000 as settlement for the illegal drug case filed against her husband, Roel Canlapan.
Police who conducted the operation recovered from Lopez the marked money he received from the Canlapans, his .45 caliber Norinco service firearm loaded with 11 live bullets and two mobile phones which supposedly contain the text messages he had sent and received from Mrs. Canlapan.
Pelle, on the other hand, was not around during the set up operation.
On Thursday, the police suspects were charged with robbery and extortion at the Pampanga Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
