Residents of eastern part of Metro Manila and nearby Rizal province will soon enjoy fast and convenient travel to the capital following the recent groundbreaking of the LRT Line 2 East extension project.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said the two new stations will be built to extend the current LRT-2 railway line from Santolan, Pasig City to Masinag in Antipolo City. The railway project is expected to be completed in August 2018.
“While the government has launched a series of offensives to clear Marawi City of Maute rebels, the rest of the Duterte administration remains focused in its avowed goal of bringing prosperity for all,” he said.
“This will make a commuter’s travel time from Recto to Masinag less than 40 minutes compared to the usual travel of up to three hours by bus or jeep,” he said.
Abella said the railway project, which is part of the government’s Build-Build-Build Infrastructure Plan, is designed to accommodate 80,000 passengers per day.
Transport authorities earlier said the railway expansion will not only help decongest roads but also ease the burden of commuters from traffic woes.
Under the 4-kilometer extension project, the Emerald station will be built in front of two malls in Cainta, Rizal while the Masinag station will be located near the Masinag junction in Antipolo.
