Coach Yeng barely missed out on drafting Bong Ravena 25 years ago. Now, Guiao will coach Bong’s first-born son in the PBA.
Kiefer Ravena was never going to drop in the PBA Draft, no two teams will pass up on the chance to take the Phenom.
However, after the former Ateneo star’s name was finally called, second on Sunday after Fil-German forward Christian Standhardinger, Ravena finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After a rather long journey, one that saw him try his luck in the United States after a successful stint in Katipunan, Kief is finally in the PBA.
“Kahit ano naman sabihin natin, iba pa rin pag natawag na yung pangalan mo doon sa podium,” he said.
“Sobrang ano lang, sobrang dream come true. 25, 26 years, coach Yeng, kinukuha niya yung dad ko, ngayon nagkaroon siya ng opportunity na kumuha ng isang Ravena. Sana mas okay yung nakuha niyang Ravena,” Kiefer added.
In the 1992 Draft, San Miguel took Bong Ravena fifth overall. Yeng Guiao’s Swift team was picking sixth and ended up with Enrique Reyes instead.
“I’m blessed to have a chance to play under a winning coach in Yeng Guiao,” Kiefer said.
“Very ecstatic, very fulfilling feeling. Matagal ko nang pinangarap to. Hopefully, maka-contribute talaga ako sa NLEX,” he added.
