“This Time I’ll Be Sweeter” lead stars Barbie Forteza and Ken Chan want to be recognized for their acting abilities more than anything else.
While many young stars attempt to level up their careers by unleashing their sexy side, the two are quite tentative to do so.
“Actually gusto ko nga po na ’wag muna masundan ’yung pagsu-swimsuit ko sa ‘MTB,’” she admitted to Bulletin Entertainment and other members of media.
Recall that Barbie got the boys going loco when she don a two-piece swimsuit on “Meant To Be” for one of its episodes.
Barbie continued: “Feeling ko po kasi marami naman akong pwedeng gawin as an actress na hindi ko kailangang magpa-sexy.”
At 20, the actress is not ready to shed her teeny-bopper image.
The actress is not willing to do kissing and daring scenes – at least for now. But wait, she did one in the Cinemalaya film “Tuos,” right?
“May daya po lahat ’yun,” she confessed, laughing.
Barbie thinks a film’s success does not rely on having sensual scenes. For her, as long as the storyline has substance, the viewers will appreciate it.
Ken also wants to keep to his wholesome image.
We told Ken that he has close resemblance to the late matinee idol Rico Yan. He’s overwhelmed, relating the latter is his idol.
If there’s anything he wishes for, it is to do a remake of any Rico Yan film.
We caught up with Barbie and Ken at the red carpet premiere of their latest film “This Time I’ll Be Sweeter.”
The event was attended by many KenBie fans and supporters. The film is now in cinemas nationwide.
Ken expressed gladness for the support their tandem has been getting.
“First time ko po mag-premiere ng ganito and sobrang hindi ko ine-expect na ganu’n katindi ’yung suporta ng mga fans,” he shared. “Even my parents and brother, they came para suportahan and actually naiiyak sila kasi hindi daw nila akalain na makakagawa ako ng ganitong klaseng pelikula.”
Ken said viewers will relate to the movie especially the scenes where Barbie throws her hugot lines.
“To be honest, mahilig akong mag-criticize ng mga movies and hindi ko akalain na ganu’n (kaganda) kalalabasan ng pelikula namin,” he said.
Viewers will see a “different” Ken Chan here.
“Parang ibang tao talaga ako du’n. Sobrang blessed ko din na naka-trabaho ko si Direk Joel (Lamangan) kasi binigyan niya ako ng ibang image dito, malayo na du’n sa kilala ng tao na ako bilang si ‘Destiny Rose’ (a teleserye in 2015 where he played gay),” he said.
Sorry fans, there’s no kissing scene between Ken and Barbie in the film.
Will his partnership with Barbie continue in the coming months or years? Ken is clueless about it.
“Walang pa pong specific na sinasabi about sa teamup namin,” he said. “Tingnan na lang po natin.”
“This Time I’ll Be Sweeter” marks Ken’s first lead role in a full-length film in his six years in the industry.
Barbie has been tagged among better actresses of her generation but she remains humble. What’s important to her is to grow as actress through the years.
’Pag talagang kilala at sikat na ako, alam kong I earned it, hindi ko pinilit ’yung tao na kilalanin ako,” she said.
As to her career plans, Barbie said having a permanent love team partner is not her cup of tea. She will fly to Italy this December to shoot an indie film.
The actress has earned good notice not only locally but also internationally, winning a Best Actress award for her performance in “Laut” at the 36th Fantasporto International Film Festival.
She’s a bit pressured over sustaining the high expectations of critics.
