Jayjay Helterbrand is officially calling it a career.

Helterbrand, the 2009 PBA MVP and one half of the famous Ginebra backcourt tandem of old, is making his retirement official as confirmed by Quinito Henson Monday.

The Fast will walk away from the PBA having won six championships with the Gin Kings, the last one being the 2017 Governors’ Cup which the team just defended Friday against the Meralco Bolts in front of a record crowd at the Philippine Arena.

According to Henson, Ginebra offered Helterbrand an assistant coaching job but the 16-year veteran says that he’d like to take a break from basketball for a while to spend time with his family.

The Gin Kings also offered to retire his no. 13 jersey but Helterbrand said that he would rather wait for Mark Caguioa to also retire to they can get the honor together.

The Helterbrand-Caguioa tandem, known as the Fast and the Furious to fans, carried the Ginebra franchise all throughout the new millenium.
