It was a crazy day, getting into that accident and playing in that game — BaliPure’s Jerrili Malabanan

It was a crazy day for Jerrili Malabanan.

Not only did the BaliPure opposite hitter survived a five-set thriller in Game 2 of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference best-of-three Finals but as it turned out, Malabanan together three teammates got involved in a minor vehicular accident on their way to PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Malabanan was at the wheel together with top hitter Grethcel Soltones, Iris Oliveros and libero Alyssa Eroa when their car bumped another vehicle.

“It was on EDSA. We were going pretty slow so it wasn’t that bad. I was worried before the game if I would get here in time for the warmup,” said the Far Eastern University standout.

“We didn’t know what to do, we were freaking out. But I told them to go ahead so they just like took a Grab and I just stayed with the car,” Malabanan continued. “My Tito has the car and they’re fixing it. They should have it settled by tonight.”

Malabanan came off the bench in the second set and played only until the fourth set in the Water Defenders series tying 25-15, 26-24, 24-26, 24-26, 15-13, win that forced a decider on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

“Si Jerrili magulo ang isip niya kanina kaya ‘di ko nga nilagay sa first six kasi naaksidente sila sa EDSA,” said BaliPure coach Roger Gorayeb. “Dumating sila 5:30 p.m. na. Kung ‘di nag-four sets ‘yung kabila (battle for third of Creamline and the Power Smashers) kanina, malamang dumating ‘yun nag-uumpisa na ‘yung laro.”

Still Malabanan came up with 10 big points and helped her team survive to fight another day.

“I think it was worth it,” she said. “It was a crazy day, getting into that accident and playing in that game.”

It was a crazy day indeed, still, Malabanan’s just thankful it ended well.
