Is John Prats ready to leave acting for TV directing?

MANILA — John Prats has made a name for himself as an established actor, comedian, dancer, TV host and even celebrity endorser. Starting his showbiz career at a tender age of eight in “Ang TV,” Prats rose to become one of the bankable names who managed to stay afloat in tinseltown for more than two decades now.

Married to actress Isabel Oli, Prats obviously doesn’t rest on his laurels and continues to discover new avenues that he can explore in life.

Two months ago, he tried his hand at TV directing and called the shots behind the set of the late-night show, “Tonight With Boy Abunda.” Prats thanked his mentor, TV director Arnel Natividad, for helping him complete his TV directorial debut.

This October, Prats sailed as a TV director anew when he megged an episode of the weekly entertainment program, “Gandang Gabi Vice.” He acknowledged the new journey that he’s taking and even thanked the people who inspired him, including film-TV director Laurenti Dyogi.

Is he aspiring to go full-time into TV directing? Prats apparently takes every challenge a day at a time. He is thrilled no end that he was given a chance to explore directing and definitely wishes to work at the helm of other shows in the coming months.

As it is, acting remains his bread and butter, but he intends to pursue TV directing seriously, though not full-time. If he will be given a chance to work with other talents and direct them, Prats will be thankful for every opportunity that comes his way.

A second child?

Meanwhile, family life has never been more blissful for Prats than it is now. His daughter, Lilly Feather, is now 18 months old and the actor expressed his desire to have another kid soon.

Oli has been keeping her sights seriously trained on motherhood, so she is a hand-on mom to Lilly Feather. She finds motherhood fulfilling. Another baby will not pose a problem to her nor to her husband. In fact, she welcomes a second baby anytime soon.

“We just want a healthy baby, so she (Lilly Feather) will have a playmate,” Prats. “If God gives us another baby, we will be more than thankful.”

The couple has been spending real, quality time with their daughter who is “growing up too fast,” said Prats. Last July, the family went on a trip to Singapore to give baby Lilly Feather her first out-of-the country experience. They visited Universal Studios and Sentosa Island.

Last Holy Week, the Prats spent their vacation at the Prats’ family-owned Nayomi Sanctuary Resort in Balete, Batangas, where the actor renewed his love affair with the water.

They plan to explore the world. That was the theme during the first birthday of Lilly Feather last April, with distinctive landmarks worldwide including Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, the Merlion in Singapore, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the ubiquitous red phone booth in London and a traditional Japanese pagoda.

The Prats couple, with baby Lilly Feather, graced the recent launch of PLDT Home at Shangri-La Hotel at the Fort. The actor’s younger sister, Camille Prats, also attended with her husband John Yambao.

The Prats family joins the roster of PLDT Home celebrity ambassadors that include Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, and Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2016 Maxine Medina, as well as Smart’s celebrity ambassadors James Reid, Nadine Lustre and Sun’s Vic Sotto, Matteo Guidicelli and Maja Salvador.
