“Gusto kong ipakita sa kanila na hindi sayang yung pera nila sa pagbili ng ticket at pag-nood, yung effort nila and yung time nila.”

Aside from holding on to his championship this Saturday at Pinoy Pride 42, reigning IBF Light-Flyweight king Milan ‘El Metodico’ Melindo has one more objective come fight night.

“I just want na mag-enjoy yung crowd,” Melindo told ABS-CBN Sports during Friday’s official weigh-ins. “Kasi sila yung nagbabayad, sila yung nanonood.”

If fans enjoy what they see on fight night, Milan believes that it will be step towards getting more and more fans to support Filipino boxing.

Even more than that, the 29-year old ALA Boxing product simply wants to give back to the fans who took time out of their schedules to see some of the best Filipino boxers do what they do best.

“Gusto kong ipakita sa kanila na hindi sayang yung pera nila sa pagbili ng ticket at pag-nood, yung effort nila and yung time nila.”

“Para sa kanila yung laban.” Melindo added. “Dapat ibubuhos ko kung anong meron akong abilidad na binigay ng Panginoon.”

Saturday night, Melindo will walk into the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City with a hometown crowd behind him. The Cebu-based champion will defend his title for the first time, at home.

A far cry from the reception he recieved in Japan, where he won the title from Akira Yaegashi.

“Hindi ko iniisip na hometown ko ito, ang importante sa akin ay may mag-chicheer sa akin, not like sa Japan.” Melindo said.
