Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can now expect better delivery of government services, including hassle-free travel clearance, through a new identification card system after the government launched on Wednesday, July 12, the new OFW identification card.

The OFW ID, known as iDOLE, will also replace overseas employment certificate (OEC) at no cost to the workers.

“Today, July 12, we are launching the iDOLE, the identification card for millions of overseas Filipino workers,” Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said.

“OFWs who carry this ID would mean that his documents have been legally processed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA),” he said.

The OFW ID card system is a project initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) with partner agencies such as Social Security System (SSS), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), and Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost).

Abella said the processing of the iDOLE would be shouldered by the employers.

“Hence, OFWs need not pay for the cost of the ID,” he added.

The IDs would be delivered by PhilPost to the OFWs’ respective addresses, according to Abella.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III recently said the OFW ID project is the President’s “best gift” to the Filipino modern-day heroes.

“The President has seen to it that their life is more comfortable, more secured, and their stay abroad are properly attended to,” he said.

By using the new IDs, OFWs no longer have to get travel exit clearances from POEA every time they leave the country, according to Bello.

The new IDs replaces the OEC to facilitate convenient government transactions.
