Director General Ronald dela Rosa, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said they are confident that they would be able to restore peace and order in Marawi City now that the supply system of their enemy was already cut off.

“They are already surrounded so their supplies have been cut off. They may still have supplies but they will eventually run out,” said dela Rosa in an interview over dzMM.

While the military and elite forces are taking the lead in attacking the Maute positions, some local police forces have intensified the conduct of blocking operations that include setting up of checkpoints and chokepoints.

The PNP leadership also said that the mass evacuation of local residents would make it easier for government forces to conduct operations as it already lessened the risk of civilian casualties.

Right now, dela Rosa said police and military forces have been conducting clearing operations particularly in downtown Marawi City where Maute gunmen are holed out in some buildings and houses.
