Popular K-pop group Girls’ Generation will celebrate their 10th anniversary this year by having a new album out and holding a fan meet.
It’s been two years since Girls’ Generation released the album “Lion Heart” in August 2015, which debuted at No. 1 on Gaon Chart and Billboard’s World Albums chart.
Last year, they released the song “Sailing (0805)” to celebrate their ninth anniversary.
Following “Lion Heart,” Girls’ Generation embarked on their “Phantasia” concert tour that covered South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan from November 2015 to May 2016.
The members also focused on individual activities including launching solo albums for Taeyeon, Seohyun and Tiffany, a solo track for Hyoyeon, and acting projects for Yoona, Yuri and Sooyoung.
Girls’ Generation debuted on Aug. 5, 2007 by performing the single “Into The New World” on the TV music program “Inkigayo.”
Since then, the group attained popularity and churned out hits including “Gee,” “Tell Me Your Wish (Genie),” “The Boys,” “Mr. Taxi,” “I Got A Boy,” and “Run Devil Run.”
As one of the longest running K-pop groups in Korea, Girls’ Generation has achieved commercial and professional success.
At the Golden Disc Awards, they won Digital Daesang (grand prize) for “Gee” in 2009 and “The Boys” in 2012 and Disk Daesang for “Oh!” in 2010. They also won Best Female Group in 2011, 2013 and 2015, and Artist of the Year in 2011 at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.
