Gesta will bring to the fight a record of 31 wins, one loss and two draws, with 17 victories coming by way of knockout. Gesta has won five of his last six bouts, including a stoppage victory over Martin Honorio last July.
This will be his second time to fight for a world championship. Gesta was outclassed by Miguel Vazquez when they fought in December 2012 for a lightweight championship.
Linares, meanwhile, has a 43-3 win-loss record, with 27 wins by knockout. Since losing back-to-back fights to Antonio DeMarco and Sergio Thompson in 2011 and 2012, he has won 12 consecutive matches.
