This year’s AsiaPOP Comicon (APCC) Manila is bound to get bigger with American entertainment company Netflix now among its partners.
“We promised each and everyone that we could only get bigger and we are doing exactly that,” Abdulla Mahmood, event organizers Al Ahli Holding Group’s (AAHG) director of marketing and international business development told media in a conference.
Only last year, Comicon Manila wowed fans by showcasing the latest products of entertainment giant Marvel Studios. They even allowed a sneak peek of “Doctor Strange,” one of the most anticipated movies of 2016, including never-before-seen film footage.
Abdulla maintained Marvel will still be on-board this year.
“So with both Marvel and Netflix now being part of the Comicon you could only imagine what an awesome pop culture experience this year’s event will be for fans and families.”
He is mum, however, on the featured personalities at this year’s event.
Last year, Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”), Nicholas Hoult, (“X-Men” and “Mad Max: Fury Road”), Joe Dempsie (“Game Of Thrones” and “Skins”), and Claire Holt (“The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals”), were among those who hobnobbed with fans.
“August and September are busy months for Hollywood studios but we are doing our best to get the biggest stars in for this year’s Comicon. It’s a tradition for us already,” Abdulla said, adding this time, there will be more “interactive engagement” for fans.
“We will have meet and greet sessions, photograph sessions, and panel discussion,” he said.
More, APCC Manila 2017 will once again host the Cosplay Authority Global Challenge or CAGE, considered the biggest cosplay competition in the world.
Said Abdulla, “We are continuing with the journey because we saw how passionate Filipinos are with cosplay.”
There’s everything for everyone at this year’s Comicon, with Abdulla relating, “When we say pop culture, we don’t want to just focus on gaming, anime, comics, but we also want to highlight fashion, beauty, lifestyle, fitness and sports.”
