Let’s take a trip back in time.
Back in 2012, before ONE Championship became the Asian mixed martial arts juggernaut that they are now, the made their debut in the Philippines with their fifth ever event, entitled Pride of a Nation.
That card featured the likes of would-be champs like current ONE lightweight king Eduard ‘The Landslide’ Folayang and former ONE featherweight champion Honorio ‘The Rock’ Banario.
Also on that card was one Eric Kelly, a Baguio native who at the time, was considered as one of the most promising Pinoy mixed martial artists, boasting a perfect 6-0 record, stemming back from his days with the URCC.
Under the ONE banner however, the 30-year old Kelly would be matched up with a bonafide mixed martial arts legend in former UFC lightweight champion Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver.
While Kelly had scored impressive wins inside the ONE cage twice before, it was against the veteran Pulver where he showed that he was truly a legitimate contender, and gave the fans at the Araneta Coliseum something to cheer for.
