“I’m not trying out because it’s my dream to be a courtside reporter, I’m trying out because I feel it’s important that we show people what athletes go through,”

With a new UAAP season comes new beginnings, new stories, and of course, new faces.

Those new faces include this season’s batch of new courtside reporters who have been given the opportunity to serve as the link between their respective schools and the fans.

This UAAP Season 80, we welcome on board eight new courtside reporters who will be patrolling the sidelines and getting the latest scoop on your favorite UAAP teams!

Today, we meet Ateneo de Manila’s new courtside correspondent, Martie Bautista!

The 20-year old AB Communications junior from Ateneo is no stranger to the UAAP courtside process, having auditioned for the role back in her freshman year.

“Actually, I submitted my portfolio for fun lang, and I didn’t even think I was going to get called back,” Martie said. “It’s not my first time, I auditioned before, when I was a freshman, and I didn’t pass first round.”

If a first, you don’t succeed, try again.

Try again, Martie did, and this time, she succeeded.

“When [Ms. Diane] said I was gonna start to report for Ateneo, I was like ‘What??’, and then an adrenaline rush came in, and I wanted to sprint!”

“Super shocked, as in, hindi nag-sink in.” Martie added.

While the dream of being able to report for your school is what drives most to audition, Martie had a different source of motivation altogether.

“Well I think it’s the fact that I’m an athlete myself.”

Martie was part of the Ateneo women’s football team back in UAAP Season 78.

“I said that during the first day of the auditions, I’m not trying out because it’s my dream to be a courtside reporter, I’m trying out because I feel it’s important that we show people what athletes go through,” Martie said. “I want to show that athletes, they go through a lot, it’s so crazy to be an athlete, especially a student athlete, where you have to balance everything at the same time.”

This time around, Martie gets to represent the Blue and White in a different capacity.

From the football pitch to the court side, Martie is all about that One Big Fight!
