Former Horn foe Bailey puts bet on Pacquiao

Jeff Horn may be younger and more durable, but the Australian challenger does not have that “something special” to edge World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in their July 2 fight in Brisbane, Australia.

“I don’t think Horn’s power will be a factor. And if he let Pacquiao (59-6-2 record with 38 knockouts) go with movement and combination punching, he’ll be in big trouble. I like Horn but on that level, you have to have something special and I haven’t seen that special factor yet with Horn,” American boxer Randall Bailey told The Manila Times in a phone interview.

“But we will definitely find that out in the fight,” the 42-year old Miami native added.

Bailey, a former WBO and World Boxing Association junior welterweight champion, was knocked out by Horn (16-0-1 win-loss-draw record with 11 knockouts) in the seventh round of their bout in April last year.

Bailey revealed he had a hard time making the weight for that fight.

The 29-year old Horn subsequently defeated German Rico Mueller in October and South African Ali Funeka in December, both via TKO.

“Don’t get me wrong. Pacquiao is not the same fighter five years ago. What we want to know is do Horn have the goods to close the door on Pacquiao’s era?” said Bailey, adding he wouldn’t be surprised if the 38-year old Pacquiao scores a TKO win against Horn on Sunday.

“No, I wouldn’t. It all depends on what’s left on Pacquiao,” he added.
