President Duterte is prepared to “use force” in case the massive protests of “yellow groups” and communist rebels turn violent and break the law.
The President said the anti-government forces could attempt to occupy public places and even burn a thousand of his effigies to voice their grievances.
The President warned: “Do not break the law. I will not hesitate to use force. Even if it would mean my downfall as President of this country. Tandaan ninyo ‘yan. Wala akong illusions diyan sa president-presidente,” he said in a television interview with Erwin Tulfo on state-owned PTV channel 4.
The President earlier said he may declare a “holiday” amid plans of several anti-government groups to hold protests next week. He said government work and classes may be suspended to avoid inconvenience from the protest actions.
In his television interview, Duterte appealed to the anti-government groups, including the “yellow forces” and communist rebels, to keep their protests peaceful.
He said all his enemies and critics could join forces and hold rallies even without permit and free from any threats from government forces.
