San Jose de Buenavista, Antique – Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd L. Dino the other day said he would champion the Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project, which has long been endorsed by the Regional Development Council of Western Visayas.
Dino, who was in Antique for the Regional Development Council (RDC) 2nd Quarter Regular Meeting, said he already communicated with the the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) about the development project.
He added that in two weeks time, he would be having a meeting with NIA executives to discuss the P15 billion project, which is already with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board.
The project is bigger than the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Development Project in Calinog, Iloilo and will not only solve perennial flooding in the region, but will likewise be a source of irrigation water and hydroelectric power.
Dino said that NIA should soon finalize the feasibility study for he would do his best to have it approved by President Duterte.
He also said that he would have to coordinate with the other national government agencies for this.
Meanwhile, RDC chairperson Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao said that the highest policy-making body in the region would also do its part to support the project.
Cadiao, in her inaugural speech as RDC 6 chairperson, said that she would ensure the implementation of tourism, investment promotion, infrastructure, disaster preparedness and environmental protection in the region since the RDC has the role “to stir the wheel of development in Western Visayas”.
Cadiao, who was sworn in last week by the president as RDC 6 chairperson, is the third woman to head the RDC.
