KIDAPAWAN CITY – Two still unidentified men were slain, while a barangay councilor and his wife survived an ambush in separate incidents of violence in North Cotabato last Monday.
Two men apparently walked into an ambush at around 9 p.m. after entering a karaoke bar in Sitio Tabak, Barangay Tacupan in Carmen town where their assailants had waited for them to arrive before shooting them.
The victims, who remained unidentified according to Carmen police head Chief Insp. Julius Malcontento, died on-the-spot due to multiple gunshot wounds from a caliber 9mm pistol.
Malcontento surmised the victims were not from the area as no one among the local residents could identify them.
In another incident in President Roxas town, Barangay Camasi councilor Roi Casabuena and his wife Marissa were wounded when two gunmen ambushed them while onboard their motorcycle at around 10 a.m., also Monday.
Reports said Casabuena was driving his motorcycle, with his wife as passenger, when they were waylaid along the highway at Purok-Dos in Barangay Greenhills.
Chief Inspector Andres Sumugat, station head, said the suspects wore shawls, black jackets, and sunglasses.
Casabuena reportedly sustained gunshot wounds in the neck and chest, while his wife sustained minor wounds.
