The skateboarding community in the Philippines are up for a challenge to break a Guinness World of Record for the largest skateboarding parade this June 21, 2017, this event is in line with the global celebration of the Go Skateboarding day 2017 which is held every month of June 21. It’s an annual holiday created by the International Association of Skateboarding to promote skateboarding around the world.
DC, a skateboard shoe brand, spearheads the world record attempt at the annual Go Skateboarding Day skate parade where they will target 1,000 skateboarders to participate based on pre-registration online, the Philippines skateboarding community need to beat the number 498 participant set by Los Angeles, California last 2011.
Registered skateboarders will be reviewed on site, numbered and required to wear a skate parade bib to be identified as an official participant of the skate parade world record attempt. The first 1,000 participants will get limited edition DC x Grind shirts, stickers and merchandise from DC.
According to Bianca Tan, brand manager for DC, mentioned that walk-in participants are welcome to participate in the annual Go Skateboarding Day skate parade, they just need to show up, register at 10 am in Quirino Grandstand. They won’t be counted as the first 1,000 skateboarders, but are still counted as participants for the skate parade. At exactly 2:30 pm, the 1,000 skateboarders will skate from Quirino Grandstand up to Circuit Makati at the Mountain Dew Skate Park for the skateboarding event and competition hosted by DC.
At 4 pm, the skateboard Core competition will start with DC’s first invitational competition and followed by other categories: highest olllie, longest gap, best grind, and the best skate trick video. Over PHP50,000 worth of cash for the winners of the DC Invitational category and PHP100,000 worth of DC products and gift certificates will be awarded for the other categories of the DC skateboarding competition.
Gracing the event are the DC Pro Skateboarders – Cyril Jackson, Chase Webb and Alex Lawton, they flew here in Manila to meet the local skateboarding community, do skate demo and also to celebrate the annual Go Skateboarding Day.
Alex Lawton sent this message to all young skateboarders “Just be yourself and if people like what you do, just go for it, Be active and be in the outdoor” Chase Webb said, “Just do your thing and don’t try to be someone else”.
Ms. Tan said, “The Go Skateboarding Day is really something for the skateboarders, we wanted to give them because DC shoes are created because of skateboarding and we want them to enjoy and have a fun filled parade and this is what we want to achieve every June 21”.
