BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to extend loans with no interest to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Marawi City siege.
The loans without interest will be extended to IDPs under the DA’s Survival and Recovery (SURE) program.
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol made this announcement during his recent visit to Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur as the guest of honor during the 2017 “Naliyagan” Festival of that province.
“This loan will be extended to them (IDPs) once the security situation stabilizes there and they return to their respective farms,” he said.
The SURE loan includes a P5,000 grant and a P20,000 loan with no interest, it said.
“We are lucky that we have a President (Duterte) who understands agriculture. Nobody wanted these conflicts to happen. But expect that the government will be by your side to help specially during these trying times,” Sec. Piñol added.
It was learned that the DA has recently turned over relief assistance worth P350,000 to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Linamon, Lanao Del Norte, for victims of the conflict in Marawi City.
Piñol assured the IDPs that President Duterte and the DA family would take care of them.
Meanwhile, the DA secretary is set to launch the Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA) in Malimono town, Surigao del Norte on Friday, June 23, 2017, where many farmers are set to benefit from the program.
