MANILA, Philippines – Showing that they have learned their lesson from a recent loss, the Cignal HD Hawkeyes crushed Tanduay, 89-63, for a bounce-back victory in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Former pro Oping Sumalinog made all three of his three-pointers to lead Cignal with 15 points. As a team, the Hawkeyes made nine of their 21 attempts.
Raymar Jose contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Jason Perkins added 11 points, four boards, and two assists for Cignal, as it rebounded from an 86-84 loss against Flying V last Thursday.
“We’re really happy with the way the players reacted with our motivation to them,” said Cignal coach Boyet Fernandez.
“We know we had a won game last time, but we lost it, and I really appreciated what the players did today,” he added. “They practiced hard for the last four days, and we hope that we can be very solid in terms of our team work.”
The Rhum Masters scored the first four points, but the Hawkeyes responded with 10 straight points. Cignal eventually seized a 30-16 lead, which ballooned to 29 points, 77-48, early in the fourth quarter.
Jaymo Eguilos paced Tanduay with 10 points and six rebounds, while Von Tambeling got 10 in the defeat.
