Corpuz, Buna lead Elite Class MOS winners

San Sebastian College-Recoletos standouts Joseph Corpuz and Urielle Buna spearheaded the Most Outstanding Swimmer (MOS) winners in Elite Class of the 119th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series held at the Rizal Memorial Swimming Pool in Malate, Manila.

Corpuz (boys’ 12-year) and Buna (girls’ 13-year) garned 50 points each to pocket the top honors in their respective age bands in the tournament supported by The Manila Times.

Veteran international campaigners Marc Bryan Dula of Wisenheimer Academy (boys’ 10-year), Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh of Immaculate Heart of Mary College-Paranaque (girls’ 11-year), Lee Grant Cabral of Diliman Preparatory School (boys’ 11-year) and Charize Juliana Esmero of University of the Philippines Integrated School (girls’ 14-year) also claimed MOS trophies in the two-day meet.

The other MOS winners in the girls’ division were Richelle Anne Callera (7), Ruth Denise Sula (8), Maria Francesca Barretto (9), Aubrey Tom (10), Kyla Soguilon (12) and Carmenrose Matabuena (15-over) while Aishel Cid Evangelista (7), Master Charles Janda (8), Czesk Emeril Valdez (9), Jordan Ken Lobos (13), Mervier Jules Mirandilla (14) and Jose Gabriel Lavina (15-over) bagged MOS awards in the boys’ class.

There are 16 new records established in this edition of the National Series.

Mojdeh and Evangelista nailed three new marks each while Esmero and Soguilon got two apiece, one each from Dula, Lavina, Callera, Sula, Mico Abina and Vaugh Andre Aquino.

The reigning PSL Female Swimmer of the Year Mojdeh broke records in the 100m butterfly (1:09.87), 100m breaststroke (1:23.94) and 50m butterfly (31.65) events while Evangelista registered new times in 50m freestyle (36.59), 100m backstroke (1:34.53) and 100m freestyle (1:18.85).

The next tournament will be the 120th PSL National Series slated on August 6 to be held at the Diliman Preparatory School swimming pool in Quezon City.

“We’re inviting everyone to participate in our next leg on August 6 at the Diliman Preparatory School. It’s their opportunity to showcase their skills since we’ll be selecting swimmers for international tournaments that we’ll be joining in the future,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

After the 120th edition, more than 50 PSL tankers will be vying for honors in the 2017 SICC Invitational Swimming Championship on August 12 to 13 at the Singapore Island Country Club in Singapore.
