The Commission on Election (Comelec) is expected to release the final list of qualified voters for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) by early next year.
In a statement, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the Election Registration Boards (ERBs) will soon start assessing the submitted applications it has received during the voters registration, which officially ended Thursday.
He said the ERB will decide on whether to approve or disapprove the applications.
“The ERB will take approximately two weeks to process the applications…With the upcoming holidays, all this work will spill over to early 2018,” Jimenez said.
Registrants, whose applications have been disapproved will be notified by the ERB, while those with approved applications will have their names posted in the offices of the Election Officers.
Jimenez explained applicants would be still allowed to appeal the decision of the ERB by filing a petition of inclusion or petition of exclusion.
Once the list of voters has been finalized, Jimenez said they will be issuing the updated calendar for the next BSKE, which will be held on May 14, 2018.
As of 11 a.m. yesterday, Comelec reported a surge in the number of applicants who would like to beat the deadline for the voter’s registration.
With the promising turnout of applicants during the registration period, Jimenez said they are hopeful they will be able to meet their target of getting 500,000 new regular voters and some 350,000 new youth voters.
“I think we’re on track to meet those expectations,” Jimenez said.
During the weekend, Comelec reported it already received 496,816 applications in its voter registration from November 6 to 25.
