Cetaphil continues to be a leading skin-care brand for sensitive skin

What makes up a classic? It should be timeless, tried and tested, and at times, even iconic. When it comes to beauty, classics are products that have been trusted for years, handed down from one generation to another. These are recommended by family or experts we rely on, products or regimens we turn to when all else fails.

One of the most recognized classics in gentle cleansers is Cetaphil. For many years, those who struggle with problematic skin found their answer in this brand, specifically made for sensitive skin. It all started with a simple solution: in 1947, a pioneering pharmacist from Texas developed Cetaphil Cleansing Lotion—a skin cleanser that was safer and more effective than regular soap, but was non-drying and non-irritating on skin. This classic formula is still the same one used in the brand’s comprehensive line of skin care.

Seventy  years later, Cetaphil is available in more than 70 countries, offering a wide range of cleansers, moisturizers, sun protection, baby products, and solutions for sensitive skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and rosacea. Cetaphil has become one of the top skin-care brands recommended by dermatologists and other healthcare experts across the globe.

Soft Spot

The name “Cetaphil” was coined from the word the “phil” which means love, while “Cet” comes from the emollient fatty alcohol we know as cetyl alcohol. Cetaphil puts a premium on soft and smooth skin, treating skin to keep it healthy. “With its gentle and clinically-proven formulas, Cetaphil reinforces and protects the structure of the skin, even in people with the most sensitive and delicate skin,” explains Dr. Eszter Baltas, dermatologist, associate professor at the Department of Dermatology and Allergology in Szeged, Hungary, and co-developer of Cetaphil products.

As we all know, our skin needs have changed through the years. Whether these were brought about by our environment, the food we eat, or purely genetics, we can’t deny that sensitive skin cases have now extended to a variety of meanings.

We have sensitivity to certain ingredients, reactive or easily irritated skin, inflamed skin, skin conditions like atopic dermatitis or eczema, acne, and even extreme dryness. These and many other conditions plague those who suffer dry, sensitive or disease-compromised skin. Cetaphil treats these by providing long-lasting hydration and a protective skin barrier. Skin is calmed and cleansed at the same time.

With this in mind, Cetaphil has developed a more comprehensive range to address specific skin needs. “Over the last 70 years, we have worked closely with medical experts to better understand people’s skin needs. This has allowed us to provide different solutions adapted to these needs, and to make the Cetaphil range what it is today. Like regular exercise and a well-balanced diet, maintaining healthy skin is essential for your overall well-being. Cetaphil completes your health routine,”says Neil Popplewell, vice president for consumer business for Nestlé Skin Health. Galderma, makers of Cetaphil, is Nestlé Skin Health’s medical solutions business with an extensive product portfolio to treat a range of dermatological conditions.

Beyond 70

Last month, Cetaphil celebrated seven decades of healthy skin with distinguished guests at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Apart from the skin care chat with experts and a fun quiz bee, mothers were also honored at the event through Cetaphil’s tribute video—reminding guests of a mother’s true inner beauty, unconditional love, and the power of her comforting touch.

Cetaphil’s special guests and brand ambassadors, the Mendoza family, was there to share their tips on keeping a healthy, happy, and close-knit brood. ANC host and pastor Edric Mendoza with wife, blogger Joy Mendoza, talked about how raising God-fearing, obedient, respectful, and independent kids are essential in family life. Their holistic approach to family life makes them the embodiment of Cetaphil’s complete care.

The dynamic duo has been an inspiration to many couples as they have openly talked about overcoming challenges in their marriage and building their family for years now. You can read about Joy’s honest accounts on marriage and parenting in her blog, Teach with Joy. Edric, on the other hand, is a known keynote speaker for various multi-nationals, lead anchor, and financial planner, where he has the opportunity to educate others on raising a family while being a businessman.
