ENOUGH. Kent Salado and Arellano are doing what they should be doing to keep themselves in contention.

Arellano University is yet to find their third guy behind Kent Salado and Lervin Flores.

On Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre, however, those two were all they needed.

Salado sparked the strong start while Flores powered the fine finish as the Chiefs grounded Mapua University, 68-58, for their third consecutive victory in the 2017 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament.

“We have really put that behind us,” head coach Jerry Codinera expressed after his wards kept themselves alive and kicking following a horrendous 0-4 beginning to the preseason.

“Ininda namin talaga yung loss ni Jio (Jalalon) so nagkaroon ng imbalance yung team. We’re just hoping na yung mga pumalit, at least decent yung ma-contribute,” Codinera added, referring to the graduation of their floor leader last year.

Indeed, only Salado and Flores were the effective players for Arellano with the former collecting 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists while the latter posted a 10-point, 20-rebound double-double.

It was the now High Chief’s steering that led to their 25-point first quarter as well as the double-digit advantage they would keep for the remainder of the game.

At 3-4, Salado and his troops are chasing down 5-1 Far Eastern University, 5-1 San Sebastian College-Recoletos, and 4-1 University of the Philippines for the last three quarterfinals berths in Group B. “Pag nanalo kami sa UP, may chance pa kami,” Codinera said, talking about their final assignment.

For the Cardinals, Cedric Pelayo topped the scoring column with 13 points. Still without any identity, however, they remain winless through seven games.
