Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano is scheduled to fly to China today for an official visit.
The visit, slated June 28-July 1, is expected to bolster political trust between the two countries, as well as deepen cooperation in different fields.
A statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Manila said Cayetano will be in China at the invitation of Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The Chinese leadership will meet with Cayetano, and Wang Yi will hold talks with him during his visit.
The two sides are expected to exchange views on China-Philippines relations, China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) relations, and international and regional issues of common interest.
“China and the Philippines are neighbors enjoying traditional friendship. Since the turnaround in the bilateral relationship last year, we have further deepened political mutual trust, carried out practical cooperation in various aspects, restarted maritime dialogue and cooperation, and moved forward the bilateral relationship, which have created tangible benefits to people from the two sides and promoted regional peace and stability,” read the statement.
It will be recalled that Chinese President Xi Jinping last met with President Duterte when the latter was in China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in May.
During their meeting, the two leaders reached important consensus in developing Philippines- China bilateral relations.
