THE town of Carles, Iloilo dominated the 5th Congressional District Sports Association (CDSA) meet after harvesting medals in athletics in Estancia, Iloilo from Oct. 25-28, 2017.
Carles tracksters won the overall championship in the boys’ and girls’ elementary athletics. They collected 10 gold medals in the girls’ division and 8 gold medals in the boys’ category.
In elementary girls, Airene Medina led the team with two gold medals in the 800-meter and 1,500m races while settling for a silver finish in the 400m run.
Jezhabelle Blanca brought home the gold in 400m hurdles and silver in 100m hurdles. The two are student-athletes from Barosbos Elementary School.
Avegail Beliran of Granada ES snatched the gold in javelin throw while Hanna Ahlea Apdo of Cabilao ES ruled the discus throw.
Resha Andres from Tabugon ES clinched the gold in the 100m run and bronze in 100m hurdles.
LG Shaire Baylon of Tinigban ES won the gold in long jump and silver in 200m run. Lorea Rose Segura of Guinticgan ES topped the triple jump and 200m run events.
In elementary boys, Ronie Boy Garcia of Carles Central School got the gold in javelin throw while teammate Daniel Delfin captured gold in the triple jump event.
Kyle Magbanua and Noel Caragos of Bancal ES seized the gold medal in the shot put and high jump events, respectively. Melvin Bantillo of Buenavista ES received two gold medals in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles.
Carles sprinters also topped the 4X100m relay and 4X400m relay in both divisions.
Prior to the results of the elementary level, Balasan district settled for second with 3 gold medals followed by San Rafael and Ajuy with one gold apiece.
In the secondary girls, Carles’ barefoot runner Edna Magtubo pocketed the gold in 800m, 1500m, and 3,000m runs.
Batad National High School’s Rosel Bantillo also ruled the 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, and 400m run. Annie Rose Mercurio of Cawayan NHS won the gold in 200m run while Angelica Azucena outplayed other runners in the walkathon event and won the gold medal.
Top winners in the recently-concluded 5th CDSA meet will be the official representatives of the district to the Integrated Meet in December 2017 in Iloilo City.
The team will compete against four other Iloilo districts and city schools to qualify for the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet early next year.
