Cargo Movers extend win streak to four games

MANILA, Philippines – F2 Logistics hammered Sta. Lucia from the service box and unleashed a strong finishing kick to seal a four-set victory in the 2017 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference last Saturday at the Batangas City Coliseum.

Majoy Baron came up with a dominant performance in the Cargo Movers’ 25-18, 25-16, 18-25, 25-10 win, which was their fourth victory in a row in the club tournament.

With their victory, F2 Logistics finished its preliminary round campaign at the top of Pool D with a 4-2 win-loss mark, entering the quarterfinals on a high note.

Baron, the reigning UAAP Most Valuable player from De La Salle University, had a fantastic all-around performance with 12 kills, three blocks, and seven aces for a game-high 22 points, while Kianna Dy contributed 12 points for F2 Logistics.

However, F2 Logistics coach Ramil de Jesus was not too happy with their team’s performance, especially after they slowed down in the third set wherein they could not pierce the Lady Realtors’ net defense.

“I told them that it seems that we never learned our lesson from our first few games,” said De Jesus, whose team dropped their first two matches to Cignal and Petron.

“Kapag nakakakuha ng first two sets, medyo nagre-relax na sila at nawawalan ng respeto sa kalaban,” he explained. “Ayaw na nilang mag-isip at dumepensa.”

“Sabi ko, hindi tayo manalalo kung maghihintay lang tayo ng errors ng kalaban. Kailangan irespeto natin sila.”

The Cargo Movers led by only two points, 4-2, in the early stretch of the fourth set before Baron took charge from the service line to rip the game wide open, 15-4.

Abigail Maraño and Ara Galang also made their presence felt for an 18-6 lead, before Kim Fajardo delivered a beautiful pass to fellow setter Shawna-Lei Santos to seal the victory for F2 Logistics.

Janine Navarro, Rialen Sante and MJ Phillips tallied eight points apiece for the Lady Realtors, who notched a 2-4 mark at the end of the preliminaries.

Meanwhile, the Petron Blaze Spikers stunned the Foton Tornadoes in an epic five-set duel, 25-20, 18-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11, to finish with a 4-2 win-loss record in Pool C.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas had 17 points while Toni BAsas scored nine for the Blaze Spikers. Mika Reyes and Bernadeth Pons had seven markers each for Petron.

The Tornadoes saw their five-game winning streak snapped with the loss. Jaja Santiago tallied 20 points in their first defeat of the tournament.
