Walang salita ang makapagpapaabot ng aming pagkabigla, pagkalito, at kalungkutan sa nangyari nitong nakaraang araw,” the cardinal said in a message addressed to the people of Marawi.

The cardinal prayed for forgiveness and for peace as well as for all the victims of violence.

“Kasama ninyo nananalangin kami 0 Diyos.

The cardinal, who is in Rome, Italy, offered masses and prayers together with the Filipino priests at the Pontificio Collegio Filipino, the official residence of Filipino priests doing further studies in Rome, for the swift restoration of peace in Marawi as well as for the safety of Fr. Chito Suganob and others who were taken hostage by the Maute group.

Earlier, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) issued a prayer dubbed #PrayforMarawi for an end to the crisis in the city.
