The capture of the remaining top drug lord in Western Visayas region was directed by Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
While in the city and province of Iloilo last June 23, Dela Rosa told the hierarchy of Police Regional Office (PRO-6) to go after Richard “Buang” Prevendido and capture him by all means.
Both the PNP and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have tagged Prevendido as the leader of one of the two major drug groups based in Iloilo City.
Prevendido has been in hiding right after the assassination of drug lord Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr. and his wife Merriam last August, 2016,
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. have together pledged P1 million in reward money for Prevendido’s capture.
Iloilo has been in the limelight after President Rodrigo Duterte tagged it as “shabu” center when he publicly named police and government officials who are alleged protectors of the illegal drug trade here.
Meanwhile, Dela Rosa expressed disappointment with the police personnel in Maasin town.
Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag, PRO director, told Manila Bulletin that Dela Rosa did not hold back in criticizing Maasin PNP for having been disarmed by rebels of the New People’s Army (NPA).
Binag said that Dela Rosa noted that not one of the nine cops who were on duty last June 18 fought back against the rebels.
An estimated 40-50 NPA rebels stormed Massin PNP’s station last June 18 and took all the cops’ firearms and even some of their personal belongings.
