BDO Foundation completes rehab of birthing home, RHU in Negros Oriental

BDO Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of BDO Unibank, has completed the rehabilitation of the Oscar M. Lopez Birthing Home and Rural Health Unit in the town of Valencia in Negros Oriental.a

The rural health unit, which serves patients 24/7, was affected by heavy flooding due to recent typhoons in the area. The newly improved facility is expected to enhance the delivery of maternal, child care and other outpatient services to a catchment population of close to 70,000 from 24 barangays.

Situated in the municipality of Valencia, the facility is about nine kilometers from Dumaguete. Similar to other projects of BDO Foundation, the renovation of the said health center was in line with its disaster response advocacy and rehabilitation program.

“Through the rehabilitation of Oscar M. Lopez Birthing Home and Rural Health Unit of Valencia, we are once again finding ways to serve our stakeholders. We hope we are able to contribute to the health and well-being of the people by helping improve the healthcare services that are available in their community,” said BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito.

The Oscar M. Lopez Birthing Home and Rural Health Unit is the sixth health center BDO Foundation has rehabilitated so far this year. Rehabilitation of more health centers are underway.

“We hope that through this initiative, BDO Foundation is making a modest contribution to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal on promoting healthy lives especially through better maternal and child healthcare, and the Philippine Health Agenda’s target to enhance the country’s health services delivery system,” Deriquito added.

Just recently, close to 100,000 residents of Escalante City in Negros Occidental were given the access to better health services following the rehabilitation of the Escalante City Health Office and Escalante City Maternity Clinic, which was exclusively funded by BDO Foundation.

Part of the improvements was the rehabilitation of the health center’s offices, clinics, consultation rooms, treatment rooms, breastfeeding station and various facilities. A play area for children complete with books and toys and an area for the comfortable use of senior citizens were also built. Further, the foundation rehabilitated the maternity clinic so that pregnant mothers can be given the best patient care possible.
