“We have to sit down with the Philippine Olympic Committee about this. Pwede tayong magka-medal sa Olympics,” said Ramirez.
Among the gold medalists that the PSC is committing to provide support are marathon queen Mary Joy Tabal, triathlon champions Nikko Huelgas and Kiyomi Watanabe.
The three are among the athletes whom President Duterte feted and given cash incentives for their successful campaign for the Philippines during the SEA Games.
A total of 24 gold, 33 silver and 64 bronze medals were collected during the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Under Republic Act 10699, also known as the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, gold medalists will receive P300,000 while silver winners will get P150,000. Bronze medalists of the Games took home P60,000.
All the medalists will also be given presidential citations by the President.
Presidential Adviser for Sports Dennis Uy also gave out additional cash incentives, with P50,000 going to the gold medalists, P30,000 for the silver medalists, and P10,000 for the bronze medalists.
