ATENEO de Iloilo (AdI) snatched the crown in the Boys Under-16 category of the 3rd Kalibo Ati-atihan Futsal Cup at the expense of Janiuay United Football Club, 5-2, at the Aklan Catholic College covered court on Jan. 7, 2018.
Trained by head coach Richard Guanzon, AdI booters reached the finals after winning three of their four games in the eliminations.
They first defeated Kalibo Sakeros FC, 2-0; blanked Barotac Nuevo, 4-0; and Manoc-Manoc, 5-1.
They suffered their lone loss to Janiuay United, 4-1. But that did not stop the Ateneans from reaching the finals after dropping Barotac Nuevo, 3-0.
In the finals match, JR Lim Ramos scored two goals while Karl Daniel Legaspi, Konrad Keim Sollorin, and RJ Pescadera added one goal each.
Barotac Nuevo settled for third place after beating University of San Agustin (USA).
AdI is comprised of Karl Daniel Legaspi, Jule Ian Malayan, Anthony Mann, David Brian Navigar, Jeremy Jobert Peñafiel, RJ Pescadera, and Konrad Keim Sollorin.
A total of 24 teams across Visayas Island competed in the third edition of the tournament which started on Jan. 6.
The two-day futsal cup gathered 250 players, coaches, and trainers from Iloilo, Aklan, Capiz, and Cebu.
Organized by the Kalibo Sakeros Football Club in partnership with the Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation Inc. (Kasafi) and the local government unit (LGU) of Kalibo, the activity is one of the side events of the upcoming Ati-atihan Festival in Aklan, which is celebrated every second week of January.
