Former Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino on Monday, November 27, dismissed allegations that the Liberal Party (LP) is working on a plot to destabilize the current administration.

Aquino, who is also the party’s chairman emeritus, clarified that the LP is not behind any plans to oust President Rodrigo Duterte after the latter mentioned that the “yellows” are among those who wanted to unseat him.

“Wala kami pina-plano na ganyan (We’re not planning anything like that),” Aquino told reporters after the mass held at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City for the 85th birth anniversary of his father—Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr.

Aquino remarked that if Duterte is doing a good job, any destabilization plot against him will not succeed.

“Pero kung hindi tama ang mga nangyayari, hindi natutupad ang mga pinangako, hindi maintindihan ang sinasabi—yan ang nagki-create ng dissatsifaction (But if what has been happening were improper, promises were not kept, and words were unclear—these create dissatisfaction),” the former president added.

Instead of pointing at the LP, Aquino suggested Duterte to also “look at people around him.”

Lately, Duterte has been issuing warnings that he might declare a revolutionary government if things have gone “out of control” and if the government is at risk of being overthrown violently amid the alleged destabilization efforts by his political enemies.

Aquino, however, noted that a revolutionary government could only be established after a complete system failure that makes the government no longer able to carry out its functions.

The former president also said he found no reason for Duterte to declare a revolutionary government.

‘No psychological issues’

During his interview with reporters, the former president also insisted that Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is mentally stable when he assessed her qualifications for the post.

“I didn’t see anything that would have made me think twice [in appointing her] during my interactions with her,” Aquino said.

He then asked, “We see her speaking in forums. Have we seen anything that should have made us nervous about how she comported herself?”

Sereno reportedly failed her psychological exam taken during her application for chief justice in 2012 after supposedly getting a score of 4—the highest of which is 1 and the lowest is 5.

According to Lawyer Lorenzo Gadon, the complainant in Sereno’s impeachment case, the two psychologists who performed psychological examinations on her were supposedly terminated after she was appointed as the chief magistrate.
