Anniversary thoughts » Manila Bulletin Entertainment

I don’t remember the exact day but I am sure it was in November 2008 that I became a radio jock.

I never imagined I would be on radio because my dream was to be a respectable broadcast journalist.

The Author

It has been nine years since my first airing. I have worked with several radio stations (tawid nang tawid!) but it is a blessing for me now to be back with my mentor Manny Luzon and work for 91.5 Win Radio.(Sir, Christmas bonus po ha, chos!)

FM radio opened the doors for me to be on TV, print, digital media and the academe (sana tuloy pa mga pagbukas ha!) My nine years on radio may be a short period compared to the tenure of veteran radio personalities but I learned a lot and willing to learn more. (For more money po – more money?!)

With the experience I have gained, some people ask me of the basic guidelines how to be a radio jock. Each radio personality has his own take on this but for me, I always share my five Cs. (C for chorva?! Chos!)

Character. Being yourself is the best way to be a good radio jock but if it doesn’t work, you need to have your own character that will make a mark on air. (Para lang syang pag-aartista, minsan kailangang umarte!)

Content. Every time a radio jock opens his microphone, he should say something significant. Having a concept for one’s show is a must.

Creativity. FM radio is entertainment media. It is expected that you present yourself and your show creatively. (So, katasin ang naitatagong creative juices. Katasin?!)

Connection. Know your listeners/ audience. Speak their language. Know their concerns.

Clarity. FM radio is part of the broadcast industry. Broadcasters are expected to convey the message clearly. (Magbasa – basa at ’wag buckle nang buckle!)

I will always be thankful to this industry and to the listeners. I hope to reach, entertain and inspire more people (pero inspiring ba naman ako?!).

Just always stay tuned to my radio show and follow my social media accounts especially this coming month. Aside from giving an enjoyable show, I will give away prizes. Push!)
