Bea Tan’s title defense ended prematurely Saturday at Anguib Beach here after Team Perlas surrendered to Tagum-PNP in the quarterfinals of the women’s division.

First, Perlas lost a chance top top Group D after losing a three-set marathon to UST, 21-18, 19-21, 16-18.
The Viray twins of San Beda then pounced on the opportunity, smashing Team Tuguegarao, 21-6, 21-4, to take over number 1 heading into the cross-over quarterfinals.
Once the playoffs started, Perlas was no match for Group A leader Tagum-PNP as the pair of Karen Quilario and Lourdilyn Catubag scored a 21-14, 21-16 win to advance to the Final Four.
In other women’s quarterfinals matchups, SWU’s impressive run continued after a dominant 21-11, 21-2 win over Perpetual. The team of Dij Rodriguez and Terang Ramas will meet the Viray Twins in the next round as San Beda disposed of Team Iloilo in straight sets, 21-15, 21-16.
UNO-R completed an all-no. 1 Final Four after Erjane Magdato and Alexa Polidario made quick work of RTU-1, 21-8, 21-7. UNO-R will meet Tagum with a Finals slot on the line Sunday.
In men’s play, both UST teams made it to the quarterfinals and will take on separate opponents with Final Four slots at stake.
Group B leaders KR Guzman and Anthony Arbasto will take on Navy while Romnick Rico and Lester Yee of UST-2 will challenge Group A no. 1 Cebu.
Other quarterfinal matchups feature FEU’s Kevin Hadlocon and Jeremiah Barrica taking on Team Bacolod while Group C top seed NU will face RTU.
The 2017 BVR National Championships will play its final games Sunday still at Anguib Beach.
