Año said the AFP has prepared the Combat Engineering Brigades from the Army and the Navy for immediate deployment as soon as the clearing operations around the city are completed.

In the meantime, focus remains on combat, intelligence and civil-military operations.

AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) chief Marine Col. Edgard Arevalo said Task Force Ranao has just been activated and is in full swing in ensuring that efforts to save lives of innocent noncombatant civilians remain a primary specific task to be complied with.

“It likewise takes charge in the collating and in the distribution of relief goods to evacuees in tandem with the local government units (LGUs),” he said.

In this connection, response to the people expressing their intense desire to help internally displaced persons (IDPs or evacuees) and the families of troops killed in action during the rebellion in Marawi City, Arevalo said special accounts were opened by the AFP at the Land Bank of the Philippines for those purposes.
