MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University’s Jerrick Ahanmisi earned Player of the Week honors as he provided the spark that the Soaring Falcons need in their push for a strong finish to the elimination round of the UAAP Season 80 tournament.
The second-year guard has averaged 18.5 points per game over the past two games, both of them crucial wins.
He finished with 21 points and made some much-needed shots in the end game to lead Adamson past University of Santo Tomas (UST), 75-70, on Wednesday. He then contributed 16 points, making four of eight triples, in a 90-77 win over National University (NU) on Sunday.
Thanks in part to Ahanmisi’s performances, the Soaring Falcons are still in contention for a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four with their 8-4 win-loss record. However, they remain two games behind defending champion De La Salle University (10-2).
Nevertheless, Ahanmisi stressed that the Falcons must continue to keep learning, especially after their close shave against UST. Even in their win against NU, Adamson squandered a 28-point advantage and was in danger late, until Ahanmisi knocked in a dagger jumper with under two minutes to playu.
“I think we should learn from that. We should have not let them come back like that,” he said.
Ahanmisi beat Paul Desiderio of University of the Philippines, Ricci Rivero of La Salle, and Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo de Manila University for the weekly plum given by sportswriters from broadsheets, tabloids, and online publications.
