Police and military intelligence operatives have arrested a suspected financier of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in a raid in his alleged lair in Quezon City.
But Abdulpatta Abubakar who was arrested by the joint police and military operatives is the same person who was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport two months ago after arriving from Saudi Arabia.
He was collared after his name appeared on the Bureau of Immigration list of suspected terrorist. He was later turned over to the PNP.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group confirmed that Abubakar was indeed the one held by BI but it explained that he was later released.
“He was released in court due to his identity not having been clearly substantiated in the amended complaint and information,” the police report read.
The information refers to the Sipadan kidnapping case in April 2000 where Abubakar was said to be among those charged with kidnapping amd serious illegal detention.
