Davao City Councilor Nilo “Small” Abellera Jr. has told the Senate blue ribbon committee he has no knowledge on the P6.4-billion shabu shipment that slipped past the Bureau of Customs (BOC) last May.
Abellera made the claim in his three-page affidavit which was read by the committee’s secretary at yesterday’s continuation of the Senate’s probe into the illegal drug shipment which was seized by Customs authorities in a warehouse in Valenzuela City.
“I hereby state that I have no knowledge, let alone any participation, on the shipment of shabu from China, [which is the] subject matter of the current Senate investigation,” said Abellera in his affidavit which was read by Senate blue ribbon secretary Rodolfo Noel Quimbo.
“I have no knowledge, much less any participation in the so-called Davao Group, if indeed any such group exists at all. I never received any amount from Mr. Taguba or any other person for that matter in connection with any customs shipment,” Abellera further said.
Abellera, however, was not present at the hearing. According to Quimbo, the Davao councilor requested to be excused from Tuesday’s hearing as he was still “recovering from hypertensive urgency uncontrolled” and was advised by his doctor to rest for two to four weeks and to avoid stress.
But Abellera informed the committee he is willing to attend the probe on August 31 or September 4.
