Camille Prats shares how motherhood has made her even more selfless

People say a woman changes when she becomes a mother. Camille Prats attests to this, believing motherhood has made her a better person.

“I’ve been a mom for nine years now and I think it has changed me in a way na parang I could now give myself more to others like my son, Nathan, I never thought I could love someone so much,” she said.

The 31-year-old actress-host recalled how carefree she was growing up.

“Ang niisip ko lang palagi ay ’yung sarili ko, what I need, what I want. But when I had Nathan parang I had a better perspective of life,” she shared. “Parang biglang there’s a reason why I work, kung bakit lagi akong nagpupuyat sa trabaho, o kung bakit gusto ko pang mag-trabaho at mas pagbutihin ang trabaho ko.”

“Dati parang okay lang kung meron o wala pero ngayon mas mahal ko na trabaho ko. Mas pinapahalagahan ko na siya kasi mas kailangan ko siya to be able to provide for my son. Especially during the time when I became a single mom.”

It was in 2011 when her first husband, Anthony Linsangan, succumbed to nasopharyngeal cancer.

“Du’n ko talaga na realize na hindi pwedeng hindi ko ’pag butihan ’yung ginagawa ko,” she related. “It changed me in a way na my work ethics changed, the way I value my work and the people around me, pati rin po ’yung mga nakakatrabaho ko.”

She is now married to John Yambao.

What’s her mothering style, we asked.

Camille said she is a combination of “disciplinarian and relax mom.”

“I want us to be friends,” she maintained. “I want us to have a kind of relationship wherein we like to hangout with each other. Hindi ’yung parang napipilitan lang siyang makasama ako kasi wala siyang choice dahil nanay niya ako.”

“I always believe na with me establishing a good relationship with my son, it would be easier to discipline him. Kasi parang every time I would ask him to do something kasi gusto ko i-correct ’yung attitude niya he does it not because he’s scared of me but because he loves me and he doesn’t want me getting disappointed, angry or hurt.”

Health-conscious

Camille is now five months on the way with her second child.

She is making sure her baby girl comes out healthy.

In fact, when Nathan recently had the hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD), Camille has had to restrain herself from going near him.

“At that time kasi I’m already pregnant, I was about on my first trimester. When he got that siyempre nagka-fever siya, as in hindi talaga ako makalapit kasi nga hindi ako pwede magkasakit, hindi ako pwede mahawa. So hanggang silip lang talaga ako kasi we didn’t want to risk it at that time.

“Sobrang na-stress ako kasi I had to sleep in a separate room, ta’s sinisilip ko lang siya. Ta’s at that time pa hindi siya nakakatulog kasi sobrang kati, nangangati ’yung kamay niya and paa niya,” she said. “Nasakto pa na kung kailan siya nagkasakit hindi ko pa siya maalagaan so sobrang nag-worry talaga ako.”

Adding to her worry is Nathan’s allergic rhinitis.

“That’s something na talagang binabantayan ko because meron rin siyang history of cancer from his father’s side eh,” she shared. “So every time he’s sneezing or coughing, sobrang praning talaga ako.”

Camille often uses natural remedies like lemon and turmeric to alleviate her son’s allergy.

“’Pag medyo nakikita ko na matagal na ’yung allergy, that’s when I consult our pediatricians, kung ano ’yung dapat na gamot na ibigay sa kanya,” she said.

“I always make sure na I ask experts or pedia kasi I’m not the type na bigay ng bigay ng gamot. Hindi rin kasi ako sure, ayoko rin naman kasing mag magaling kasi it’s not something na porke’t I read about it ay ibibigay ko agad.”

Opportunities

Camille and Nathan were recently introduced as newest ambassadors of RiteMED for Kids.

Though Nathan has been part of “Goin’ Bulilit,” Camille revealed how worried her son was about the matter.

“Sabi niya ‘Mommy can I do that?’ ‘Mommy what will they ask me to do?,’” she shared. “So sabi ko ‘I think it’s just gonna be fun.’”

“And kapag magkasama kami, parang it’s not work eh, parang it’s always play time. ’Yun, it’s something I always look forward to kasi for us it’s also a bonding experience,” she added.

Nathan, on his part, is happy the endorsement allowed him to show his dancing skills.

“I love to dance po kasi,” he said. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)
