A Collection Of Upcoming Sneaker Collabs To Look Forward To

It seems that the prevalence of big-name sneaker collaborations isn’t about to die out any time soon. As we head into the last quarter of 2017, many of the year’s most-awaited sneaker releases are hyped-up collabs. Here are a few to consider for your rotation (or just daydream about owning someday):

1) Virgil Abloh x Nike ‘The Ten’

September 2017 and November 2017

It’s not so much a collaboration as it is a “design project.” Virgil Abloh is one of Kanye West’s right-hand creatives and the man behind streetwear label OFF-WHITE (which, for the uninitiated, was the brand in that viral social media video from Baguio). He teamed up with Nike for a collection of 10 sneakers, divided into two sub-collections of five: “REVEALING” and “GHOSTING.”

“REVEALING” consists of an Air Jordan 1 (which Roger Federer wore on court), a Nike Blazer, an Air Max 90, an Air VaporMax, and an Air Presto. They’ve all got a raw, industrial, hodge-podge aesthetic going on, as if the shoes were deconstructed and put back together like some sort of sneaker version of Pudge.

On the other hand, “GHOSTING” is made up of a Zoom Vaporfly, an Air Max 97, an Air Force 1 Low, a React Hyperdunk, and a Chuck Taylor All-Star (because Nike owns Converse yo). This half of the collection is consistent with the look of “REVEALING,” but instead makes use of translucent parts.

Together, they’re supposed to have some sort of artistic significance, but we’d be more inclined to believe that Abloh was just dicking around in Nike’s design studio. He did, after all, say that “Most of the creative decisions were made in the first three hours,” and that by “using tools you have at home, you could also make this shoe.” Wonder what Yeezy himself has to say about all this?

2) Karl Lagerfeld x Vans

September 7

You don’t need to know Karl Lagerfeld to know Karl Lagerfeld. He’s the fashion designer with the heavily-tinted sunglasses, prolific white ponytail, and evil villain-esque pet cat. He’s also the creative director of Chanel, Fendi, and his own eponymous label—but really, it’s enough to remember him as the ponytail fashion guy. And while Vans might be one of the last brands you’d think a designer like him would collaborate with, it happened for some reason, and the collection is releasing worldwide. From the first look that Vogue just put out, expect to see the classic Vans Slip-On in a checkerboard colorway and a silhouette of his face.

3) Kendrick Lamar x Nike

TBA

He’s been with Reebok for the past year, but just last week, Kendrick Lamar revealed via Twitter that he on #TeamNike now. The most immediate fruits of this collaboration are bound to be new colorways of the Nike Cortez, considering that the Cortez has always been one of K-Dot’s favorites, even referenced in his verse on Big Sean’s “Control.” We’re already more excited for them than we ever were for any of his Reebok collabs because well, you know…

4) Pharrell Williams x adidas

August 31

Just a month after Pharrell’s Stan Smith collaboration with adidas, he’s back at it again, but this time, for some real performance tennis sneakers. This time around, he put his touch on the adidas Barricade Boost 2017, the adidas Ubersonic 2.0, and the adidas Ubersonic 3.0. The red-white-blue-and-yellow colorways happen to be very Pinoy-friendly as well.

5) Parley x adidas

TBA

Earlier this year, adidas reprised their collaboration with Parley, an organization that addresses and raises awareness of the major threats to the world’s oceans. They came out with new seafoam colorways of three sneakers: the adidas Ultraboost 3.0, the Ultraboost Uncaged, and the Ultra Boost X, each made with recycled plastic bottles. This week, local retailer Sole Academy teased via Instagram that the collection would be dropping here too. Feel good about dropping your salary on these because hey you’re saving the earth!
