If billions of dollars in cash and goods pour into the Philippines in times of natural calamities from all over the world, it is because donors have an endearing affection for Filipinos.

Filipinos have achieved international feats in various fields of endeavor that the world community admires.

And if you have a nation of heroes like this country, they have become citizens of the world. Our image is so likeable that in times of disaster like the one caused by typhoon Yolanda in November, 2013, Bohol and Leyte earthquakes, volunteers from every country on earth were quickly at our doorsteps.

We have Cardinal Luis Tagle. In such a short time, he has attained fame and admiration from ecumenical communities. So without him actually asking for assistance from the outside world, aid of various forms may have already came our way.

The world is teeming with sports followers. And many Filipinos have attained iconic status. Who can refuse Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire if they ask donations for Yolanda victims?

Same with the magic appeal of NBA Champion Coach Erik Spoelstra of Miami Heat. Same with Gilas Pilipinas and Philippine Volcanoes!

During her reign as Miss World, Megan Young appeared in a widely televised TV Show in New York. Her beauty and charm mesmerized a worldwide audience. Reports said she drew in thousands of dollars to the donation kitty!

Miss Universe 3rd runner-up Ariela Arida has used her fame to appeal to multi-national firms for donations.

In the music world, the fame of Lea Salonga. Charice Pempengco, Jessica Sanches, and Arnel Pineda are more than enough to convince music fans to plunk in some amount to the donation box.

And, yes, CNN’s Man of the Year Efren Peñaflorida is so much admired in the international front that a few seconds of appeal on TV will send cash donations from corporations and individuals around the world.

Classical pianist Cecile Licad and Hall of Famer UST Singers and Coro Tomasino have millions of loyal followers in every corner of the globe. They will be ready to give to such humanitarian effort that has caught the attention of every citizen of the world.

In the movie world, award-winning director Brillante Mendoza, along with a number of noted Fil-Am actors and actresses, can draw in financial contributions to the victims of natural calamities.

The Philippines and Filipinos possess such likeable image overseas that the international community will always be ready to extend a helping hand.
