THE fourth district of Iloilo is being groomed as an industrial zone.
Rep. Ferjenel Biron said potential locators in the district have pending applications with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
Biron said 25 to 50 hectares of land in Passi City is being proposed as an agro-industrial zone.
“We are eyeing locators for processing of fruits or other agricultural products,” he said.
Barotac Nuevo is being positioned as an aquatic zone for processing of fish and aquatic products.
Biron said there is also a proposal in Congress for the town of Dumangas, where Iloilo’s biggest port is located, to be the main gateway of Iloilo province.
“I talked with the Department of Transportation and they consider Dumangas as the main gateway of Iloilo instead of Iloilo City,” he said.
The congressman said PEZA is already studying an available area for logistics or warehousing zone within the Dumangas Port.
Biron, chairperson of the Committee and Trade and Industry at the House of Representatives, partnered with the Board of Investment (BOI) for the conduct of an Investment Priorities Plan (IPP) Roadshow at Grand Xing Imperial Hotel in Iloilo on Sept. 8, 2017.
He said Iloilo, being a first class province, has a lot of investment potentials. Putting up of more businesses will be complemented by the province’s rich manpower.
“Remember Iloilo is the seat of academe and we are the biggest producer of professionals in the region. The more businesses we have, the greater employment opportunities there will be. We cannot keep on exporting people as domestic helpers,” Biron said.
