Butuan City – Three mild tectonic earthquakes jolted Surigao del Sur province Sunday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
However, the Surigao del Sur provincial disaster risk reduction and management council there reported no damage or injury.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said a 2.6 magnitude tremor was recorded at 10:55 p.m. on Sunday night (Aug. 27).
The epicenter was plotted only 9 kilometers (km) northwest of Cortes town, Surigao del Sur with a depth of 25 km.
Earlier, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake was registered at 10:33 p.m. on the same day (Aug. 27).
The epicenter was traced only 7 km of that same town (Cortes) and province, it said.
The tremor had a depth of 32 km.
At 10:01 p.m. on the same day (Aug. 27), a 3.5 magnitude tremor was also recorded, the state agency said.
The epicenter was located 41 km northeast of Tandag City of that same province, it said.
The earthquake had a depth of 16 km.
The three tremors were tectonic in origin and no tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.
Rescue team and personnel of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council was alerted following the series of mild earthquakes that struck Sunday night in different locations in that Pacific Ocean facing province in northeastern Mindanao region.
